Fungal acne presents as clusters of small, itchy bumps that are uniform in size, typically appearing on the chest, back, and shoulders. Unlike bacterial acne, these bumps do not have blackheads or whiteheads and often appear in areas with high sweat and oil production. Diagnosis involves a thorough clinical examination and sometimes a fungal culture or skin biopsy to confirm the presence of Malassezia yeast. Dermatologists may also use a Wood’s lamp, which causes the yeast to fluoresce under UV light, aiding in diagnosis.
